So, you started quizzing this year. Congratulations! You have just stepped into what your parents don't call a drug, but many kids in Quizzing are presently addicted to. Its a neck-to-neck world in competition, a great way to socialize at practices, and something that will take you REALLY far later in life. Here are some Rookie do's and dont's

DONT: Goof off during practice. It might seem funny at the time, but if you don't pay attention its going to come back and bite you in the butt.

DONT: Get discouraged if the senior quizzers are doing a whole lot better than you. They already know their study style, and have been quizzing for at least a year longer. Some of them probably studied over the summer.

DONT: Listen to your friends if they tell you that you're too uptight about quizzing, or that you should quit. They're just jealous that you can recite a good chunk of the Bible.

DONT: Shy out of jumping. Nobody cares if you got it wrong! It doesn't even count until question 16!

DONT: Get mad when you aren't doing as well as you usually do. Everybody has those days.

DONT: Stop studying because you got one award. Its not a good idea.

DONT: Get upset when you know you could've done a lot better and your friends tell you that you did great. They are just making sure you don't get mad at yourself.

DONT: Stop jumping. At all. Got one wrong? Keep jumping until you err out. Got it right? Go all the way and quiz out.

DONT: Hold back your potential. Behind every quizzer, in my opinion, there is GREAT potential! The Rookie year is the year to discover that... don't hold yourself back. Follow this tip, and before you know it, you might be the next Top Champioinship Rookie!

DONT: Use the rookie title in a bad way.  Simply put: studying less or not jumping because you're 'just a rookie' is NOT a good idea. Every quizzer counts and that counts you. Do what you would do if you weren't a rookie.

DONT: Take critique the wrong way.  Whatever they said was probably supposed to help your quizzing, not make you feel like a total idiot for not figuring it out yourself... no matter HOW they say it.

DO: Make the most of your practices! Make new friends, get phone numbers, hang around.

DO: Keep your head in the game. You don't want people looking at you thinking you're obviously a rookie, do you?

DO: Apply for scholarships if your division offers them! Why not get a year of college education for free? All you have to do is get some references and you're set!

DO: Go on the trips! Billet with your frends! Go shopping in the nearest mall after the awards ceremony! Go to a resteraunt that you have never seen before! Quiz meets take you places, take advantage of it!

DO: Take breaks from studying! Especially if you are prone for getting headaches.

DO: Let your parents and friends (preferrably from quizzing) help you. They might have some tricks up their sleeves.

DO: Ask other quizzers for tips, even if you don't know them.

DO: Get a fun team name! I mean, NEXTican Jumping Beans is a WHOLE LOT COOLER than 'NEXT 1', don't you agree?

DO: Try to avoid open-book quizzing, the way I see it, it develops bad habits. Open-book QUESTIONS are great for studying, but using the book, you jump early and look for what you heard in the text. You get used to jumping early, WHICH IS GREAT, but then once you get to quizzing without it, you aren't used to having to recall the verses.

DO: Be proud to be a rookie. Make the year last... you're only a rookie once.

DO: Have fun!! I'm not kidding. Don't get so serious about quizzing that it isn't enjoyable anymore. If it isn't fun, nobody's forcing you to keep quizzing.  Quizzing is supposed to be fun.

DO: Try to get to know your teammates. It makes it easier to quiz as a team if you know who you're quizzing with... not just their stats.
